Mahala (neighborhood or section of a rural or urban settlement) was a word This is a Macedonian folk song written by Jonče Hristovski in 1964 brought to the Balkans via the Ottoman occupation of the peninsula. Mahala can also refer to the mood evoked by skillful musicians at a party. This tune from Romania is compiled from several sources, including recordings by Fanfare Ciocărlia, Szászcsávási Zenekar, and a fabulous YouTube video.
