The genre of Bosnian love songs called sevdalinke or sevdah, are some of the most popular folk songs in most of the former Yugoslav Republics. Most are women’s songs, exploring themes of longing and love. Musically, sevdah is known for its slow tempos and rich melancholy. The text is adapted from a version by Himzo Polovina to make it appropriate for a woman to sing, with help
from Belma Demirović.
